Farewell UWS! Although I have looked forward to never setting foot on campus again, I have to admit that there are things I’ll miss… like the bummy lifestyle of being a university student and hanging around between classes. Although it wasn’t spectacular, I’ll also always remember the cafe – chai lattes, meat pies, potato wedges and burgers. Or the time I randomly spotted the words “black cock” scrawled on the desk during one of those horrendous Managing Employee Performance tutorials.

Au Revoir!

We were lucky enough to see Phoenix play last night at The Hordern. At the risk of sounding like a teenager, I have to say that they were FRICKEN AWWWWESOMMME!! Music sounds so much better live and loud and when the stage it’s coming from is ablaze with flashing coloured lights. I’m glad they didn’t disappoint. We heard old stuff as well as the new stuff and even a cover of Air’s Playground Love. My favourite bit would have been their live rendition of If I Ever Feel Better and the round they did. A*MAZING! (ha! anyone remember that kid’s show on after school in the arvos?). We all got to hear our songs, even Thien who was hanging out to hear Funky Squaredance!

One thing that caught me by surprise was how big they actually are. I wasn’t expecting such a ‘huge’ show and the overabundance of teeny boppers but then what could I really expect? Everything is mainstream these days and suppose it all makes sense considering how catchy their music is. One thing that really pissed Rob and I off though, was hearing one teenage twat whine that she “only like[d] shit [she] c[ould] dance to” Well, Sweetheart, maybe you should stick to buying CD singles instead of coming to the whole fucking concert. Or maybe I should suggest, rather, that she stick to downloading singles off iTunes. Bitch, have some respect! Geez.

We tried the mosh during the opening act (Miami Horror) but I think my stature (or lack thereof) and misanthropy got in the way of my enjoyment of it. I got pretty narky, having people constantly push in front of me and I wasn’t sure if it was because they thought I was some sort of easy target or if they were just cunty McCunts in general. It was all good once we headed to the stands for Phoenix though (thank you Paul’s neck for playing up and presenting me with the opportunity to extract myself from the shovefest that was the mosh!), but I will always be torn by the trade off between proximity (and the chance to bust out) and actually being able to SEE the performance. What does a girl of 153cm and 45kg do in these situations?

All in all, I had an excellent time and any voice I had left from being sick was definitely gone by the end of the night. But of course, it was worth it! I don’t have any photos but here’s a video from YouTube that someone took that night.

Purple Crème Comparison Mani

Excuse the terribly noisy photo, I got lazy and jacked the ISO up to 400 because I was having trouble keeping my hand still. As you can see, OPI PP and OPI CYDI? are very close. PP is slightly warmer/more red if you look closely but they are practically dupes to each other while the Misa (ring finger) was just in a darker, cooler and more blue league of its own.

Here we have (Index to Pinkie): OPI – Pamplona Purple, OPI – Can You Dig It?, Misa – Sorry Just Can’t Help It and OPI – Pamplona Purple.

Rimmel 60 seconds – Blue Me Away

I wore this colour for all of one day, I guess I wasn’t really in the mood for this one. It’s a lovely colour, though, blue with fine purple shimmer that would be highly visible in the sun. Unfortunately there was none of that when I took these pictures. Appearance aside, I noted that Rimmel’s claim to drying in 60 seconds actually affected my application of it – it would start drying before I was done but that’s probably just user-error because I’m still quite slow at painting.

Outdoors – overcast

An Indoor shot. The shimmer is slightly visible here on the index nail but very noticeable in good light in real life.

Essie – St Lucia Lilac

This is St Lucia Lilac which was good in two coats. Of course, it lived up to Essie’s notoriety of being streaky but I was pleased to find that it evened out nicely by the 2nd coat. I absolutely loooooved this colour and am ever so grateful to Michelyne over at Enamel Coated for sending this over to me in a give away she had a while ago. This is the polish that started a light pastel crème craze for me. I had previously steered clear of them in fears that they would turn out too stark against my skin but I loved this every minute I had it on. I still have China Glaze – Sun Showers to swatch which was a condition of entry for the comp but curiosity to try this one first bowled me over. Oops! Sun Showers is coming soon!

Outdoors – overcast

Indoor shot

And another against white paper. Yep, it’s lilac.

22.01.10 – Big Day Out

We battled it out with the heat to attend our first music festival together. While it wasn’t mine, it was a first for all the boys and for Nghi (but she isn’t really a stranger to these events). Glad we made it this time after our failed attempt last year. Muse was awesome and so was Calvin Harris (for the 10 mintues of his set that we actually endured the boiler Room for. It was just way too stuffy in there). I was surprised at how many fans Dizzee Rascal actually has. Wow, he packed out that stadium like a mother fucker. Here’s some proof that we went Grape Tropical Sno snow cones saved my life!

It was so hottttt. We spent alot of time trying to stay cool in the shade during the day.

Nghi and TN. You know, chillin’.

Why, hello there! Nghi and I could spot the boys assuming their positions in the mosh while we chilled out in the grand stand.

Chilling out in said grand stand. More like sweating it out, actaully. SO. FOCKING. HOT.

The crowd getting ready to see Dizeee Rascal perform. Wow, it sure filled up!

Here we are waiting for Muse to come on. Powderfinger’s set seemed to last aaaaaaggges. LOL @ seedy Will & TN.

Our first sweaty, dirty festival together. I was shiny with a slick of sweat all day. Groossssss. You don’t know how satisfying it was to shower that night. OHHHHH LAWWWD! CLEANLINESS!

09.01.09 – Annual Camping trip at Tuncurry – Day 1

Christmas came around and it went away and we suddenly found ourselves in January which meant it was time for our annual camping trip! These little escapades started with our trip to The Entrance last year and it seems to be turning into a tradition of sorts. It was nice to kick back and relax but only after putting in the hard yards of setting up. We had to relocate because it wasn’t long before some locals approached us to tell us we were in the middle of a flooding cause way. Oops. Good thing we moved though, because our first site was plagued by mozzies and it ended up raining on our last day! That would have been interesting. Anyway, here are the first round of photos.

Rob with the Tang Mobiles all packed with our gear. Thank you Mr & Mrs Tang! Please don’t hesitate to go on holidays again, hehe.

Setting up at our first site

Ahh, Westcoast. What camping trip would be complete without a white wine cooler with fruit flavours?

I have a hideous case of out-of-control baby hair at the moment. Had to cover it up with Thien’s hat.

So, I haven’t posted anything in a while. This is just a quick post to let anyone who cares know that I am still alive! I have much to report on including our time out at the Open Air Cinema, camping photos from last year, Big Day Out pics and more recently, our trip to North Island, New Zealand! Holy crap, that’s loads.

I’m currently overwhelmed with going apeshit on the job applications (yes, it is time I get off my arse, yes, I’ve only started today) and I’ve managed to send out 10 of them today. Woo hoo. Let’s hope I get some nibbles because graduate applications – FML. I feel I may as well be back at uni writing essays again because of the stupid responses I actually have to sit down and think about – and I haven’t even gotten through to any interviews yet! My nails have been naked since last night and it’s 10pm now. There is still no polish on my nails! That is when you can tell that I have been one busy bee. Bzzzzz!

On a brighter note, I am looking hella forward to seeing PHOENIX next week! FUCK YEAH! And guess who got tickets to see Vampire Weekend in May? Ah huh, you guessed it! I’m tho exthoited!

I knew I had to have her when I saw her in the machine! I instantly thought of the Coffee and TV clip. We were about to give up before giving it one last shot but it paid off because we managed to snag two prizes at once – this little girl Milk plush and a similar Tofu shaped one. A fruitful night it was – we also succeeded in winning Thien’s Sony Cat and three other small toys including a funky smelling graduation Mashi Maro. Thanks William! I can’t really say I’m into plush toys, I think it’s more about the adrenaline rush of successfully extracting them with the claw and safely transiting them to the chute. There is so much suspense, will it make it all the way?!! I guess this is our funner and cheaper version of a night out to Star City Casino!

Illamasqua – MILF

This colour was absolute loooooooove! When the mint green craze started I wasn’t sure if I was going to be participating because I had doubts that it would look any good with my skin tone. Memories came rushing back to me from when I was in Year 4 – I wore a similarly coloured polish to school only to have my teacher ask me if I was ill because apparently my nails made me look like I was I’ve always liked pastel green as a colour, it’s quite soothing to look at so I took a chance with MILF and I’m glad I did. You will have noticed that this particular example leans yellow in comparison to other similar polishes, it’s not a clean, crisp mint but I think this is what made it work for me (and my Asian skin). I absolutely love it!

2 obese coats

Again, in the sunshine

Now, let’s talk application. All I’ve heard about Illamaqua polishes thus far is that their formula is to die for. Buttery smooth and well pigmented. This for me, however, wasn’t the case. It was thick and gloopy and a bit difficult to work with. I was really disappointed because I paid a mint (har!) for this but can’t totally fault it because the colour is awesome and because I’m pretty sure there was just something wrong with my bottle (dried out a little, perhaps?). Despite all that, there was evidence of that legendary formula in there somewhere. I’m sure that it will be fantastic after I add a few drops of thinner – I’m just a bit scared of doing this because I’m still unsure about B3F polishes and non-B3F thinner (which is all I have in possession at the moment). Pigmentation was good and it would’ve been opaque in one coat if I had mad skillz.

Now, here’s something I discovered when I first got this. MILF was made in Australia! It pains me to know that I waited weeks for this to ship to me from the UK when it was originally made here. I would have saved a buttload in shipping and carbon emissions if I could have just gotten this here! Poo.

OPI – Apricot-cha Cheating

Next up is Apricot-cha Cheating from the Las Vegas Collection 2003 (sadly, discontinued now). I thought the name for this one was a bit weird and lame (trying a bit too hard to play on ‘apricot’, perhaps?) until I realised what the running theme was. But anyway, it’s an apricot creme and I think it was good in 3 coats. Maybe 2, my memory fails me. It’s what I originally wanted Back to the Beach Peach Pit to be (based on pictures I’ve seen) but I have since made peace with that polish and maybe even like it more than this one For those looking for a dupe, I wore this at the same time I painted Robyn’s nails with Color Club – Coral Cascade and they were virtually identical.

China Glaze – Shower Together

Good in two coats. This colour is gorgeous but I can’t see myself wearing it as often as others which is why it was perfect for the camping trip we went on at the beginning of the year. I don’t even know how to describe it. Bluey-tealish-aqua? I don’t know. My photo is preee-eetty close to what it looked like in real life, though, I edited the pic which is why my hands look like I have boiled them in hot water. Just ignore that

Misa – Fashionista

I kind of went nuts with these kinds of shroomy/taupey colours after falling in love with Channelesque (below) which led to my fling with Fashionista. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out between us because it didn’t look as good as I had hoped with my skin tone. Sorry, but that’s a deal breaker for me. It’s up for swapsies on MUA now, but it doesn’t seem like anyone wants to swap with an Australian girl considering it’s easily accessible through etailers. Boo. This was good in two coats.

China Glaze – Channelesque

Last but not least, my Holy Grail ’shroomer’. A wonderful purpley-grey-taupe with killer application. This my friends, is a one coat wonder. It glided on smooth and buttery and I had no troubles with it whatsoever. Unfortunately, this one, I’m pretty sure, is also discontinued. It’s one of only two colours I have a back-up bottle of in my collection, heh!

One coat wonder! (1.5 coats for me because I am not that good with application). Love! Love! Love!

So, the girls and I have been on a bit of a Korean BBQ binge lately… and I have documentation! This particular time we ate at a joint called “Wow Bulgogi” in Kensington which was a change from our usual local haunt since we had a Moonlight Cinema screening to attend later that evening. It was a pleasant experience overall. The service was nice and friendly and so was the decor. There was a slight deviation from the norm at the end of our meal, however, when one of the staff approached us with a Polaroid-style instant camera and asked if we would pose for a photo. Sure, why not?” So we proceeded to remove any food stuck in our teeth before smiling for the camera. He took two pictures, one for us and another under which we were asked to write a comment. I think we had just become the first contributors to a mural of some sort! Anyway, on with the pictures!
