Ahh, it seems this blog is becoming less and less about nail polish. Actually, I’d go one step further to say that it’s becoming less and less about anything, really. I’ve fallen into the rhythm of the daily grind and there just isn’t any bother left in me to take some photos by the time I get home, let alone any sunlight these days… Although this can’t be any real excuse because my favourite (_I_)head actually got me a lightbox for our anniversary back in April! Damn, I’ve been real slack. This is just a quick update for anyone who cares – I will try harder to resume blogging when I have more time on the weekends… after I address my weekly urge to buy “work clothes”.

Here are some random tidbits:

You can really tell something about someone by the way they post letters/documents. I have the glamorous task of opening the office’s mail and have found that nothing screams “lazy tightarse” more than 10 pages of paper folded into a little square and then jam packed into an envelope the size of those little gift cards. Seriously. Could you not just bother to get a bigger envelope?!! I have a new appreciation for people who are organised enough to clip their pages together and neatly send it off in an A4 envelope. Have you ever tried wrestling a whole stack of paper that has been folded and creased far too many times? IT just keeps bouncing back at you when you’re trying to work with it.
Oh yeah, I graduated. YAY! And I ate my grad cake for breakfast everyday for 4 days straight. It was the best 4 days of my life during which I produced the most pleasant smelling burps I’ve ever.. burped.
The weekend is far too short. I had started my job with a couple of 4 week days and I think a 4:3 weekday:weekend ratio is the perfect balance

New workplace!

I’ve secured employment! And guess what? I don’t need to wear business attire! I was looking forward to building up a corporate wardrobe but after a day in the comfort of jeans and flats, it doesn’t really seem to matter anymore These past few days have been ‘exploratory’ in that I’ve been trying to gauge what is acceptable and what isn’t. I thought I was taking a risk by wearing Essie Body Language on my first week (instead of something even more incognito like Mademoiselle or something) but it turns out that it doesn’t really matter since I’ve already spotted less un-obvious colours around the office! The weather is getting cooler and I am feeling more inclined towards wearing darker shades. I hope I can bring out my vampies! One of the girls was wearing something that looked like Mrs O’Leary’s BBQ, so maybe I’ll start with that.

Since coming back from holidays, I’ve been busy looking for work and applying for jobs. I’m young and have the rest of my life to commit myself to the daily grind but I can’t help but feel this sense of urgency. I need to find a job ASAP or it’s going to be the end of the world. I have something casual to tide me over so I’m not sure where all this is coming from. Maybe it has to do with my degree. Maybe I feel that if I don’t find a job it will expire and the purpose of the last three years of my life will evaporate into nothing. I wish I could be one of those people who are happy to just go with the flow and do ‘whatever’. But alas, I need ‘direction’ in my life because I’m just not one of those people who can enjoy doing ‘nothing’ or finding things to do while I’m doing ‘nothing’. The things I enjoy in life tend to be things I look forward to, not things I just pluck out of the air to do then and there. I. Think. I. Need. To. Re-wire. My. Brain. Or get someone to hire me.

Woo! I just got a letter confirming my eligibility to gradaute in April along with details of my ceremony. I’m so excited!

Farewell UWS! Although I have looked forward to never setting foot on campus again, I have to admit that there are things I’ll miss… like the bummy lifestyle of being a university student and hanging around between classes. Although it wasn’t spectacular, I’ll also always remember the cafe – chai lattes, meat pies, potato wedges and burgers. Or the time I randomly spotted the words “black cock” scrawled on the desk during one of those horrendous Managing Employee Performance tutorials.

So, I haven’t posted anything in a while. This is just a quick post to let anyone who cares know that I am still alive! I have much to report on including our time out at the Open Air Cinema, camping photos from last year, Big Day Out pics and more recently, our trip to North Island, New Zealand! Holy crap, that’s loads.

I’m currently overwhelmed with going apeshit on the job applications (yes, it is time I get off my arse, yes, I’ve only started today) and I’ve managed to send out 10 of them today. Woo hoo. Let’s hope I get some nibbles because graduate applications – FML. I feel I may as well be back at uni writing essays again because of the stupid responses I actually have to sit down and think about – and I haven’t even gotten through to any interviews yet! My nails have been naked since last night and it’s 10pm now. There is still no polish on my nails! That is when you can tell that I have been one busy bee. Bzzzzz!

On a brighter note, I am looking hella forward to seeing PHOENIX next week! FUCK YEAH! And guess who got tickets to see Vampire Weekend in May? Ah huh, you guessed it! I’m tho exthoited!

… Whose Japanese cousin we spent a buttload of money on trying to get rescue from the Skill Tester upstairs Capitol Square!

I knew I had to have her when I saw her in the machine! I instantly thought of the Coffee and TV clip. We were about to give up before giving it one last shot but it paid off because we managed to snag two prizes at once – this little girl Milk plush and a similar Tofu shaped one. A fruitful night it was – we also succeeded in winning Thien’s Sony Cat and three other small toys including a funky smelling graduation Mashi Maro. Thanks William! I can’t really say I’m into plush toys, I think it’s more about the adrenaline rush of successfully extracting them with the claw and safely transiting them to the chute. There is so much suspense, will it make it all the way?!! I guess this is our funner and cheaper version of a night out to Star City Casino!

Some of you may have noticed a new addition to the navigation on the left. This is Blingy Bill who’s the mascot for the Gum Leaf Mafia (Thank you Violet, he’s lovely!), a family of Australian and New Zealand (nail polish – among other things) bloggers. The majority of polish blogs, I’ve noticed are based in the US or other countries and I found it really comforting to stumble upon other southern hemisphere-ers.

And while I am talking about things Australian, I would just like to share my love of good Aussie TV and what I’ve been watching lately – John Safran’s Race Relations. Not only is it interesting, but it is absolutely FFFFilarious! If you haven’t already watched it, there are a few videos posted online here.

While I love watching TV in general, I have to say that I particularly enjoy Australian TV (like Packed to the Rafters, Satisfaction, Rush, Underbelly), especially stuff that airs on the ABC like Spicks and Specks; The Gruen Transfer; Enough Rope; Hungry Beast and of course, Triple J. Woo!

And while I am touching upon Australian radio, let’s talk music. Here are a few acts that I am proud have come from our great southern land:
