In doing so, I came across a screenshot of one of my old web layouts:

Wow. What a blast from the past! I remember being so impressed with myself after putting up this layout. I managed to get a little Flash animation happening where the icons for the site navigation “lit up” and appeared in time to Wicked Beat Sound System’s “I Want to” (from about 0:14, for those seeking further detail). Sadly, a screenshot of this is all that remains… I did however, manage to find saved copies of other less impressive layouts…

I  brought out the big guns for this one and used an iFrame, sliced images and layers! Phwoar!

When there was no such thing as “commenting” on blog posts, there were guestbooks and lots of trance music. This actually lined up properly, I remember spending ages getting it right (I did a bodgy print screen into MS Paint to get the screen shot).

Man, I used to love building websites! From creating the images in Photoshop to putting the pages together in DreamWeaver. Then there was fucking around with the code for stylesheets and GreyMatter (before WordPress!) before setting up CuteFTP. I would stay up intothe early hours of the morning. I can’t say I  remember being as dedicated to anything since 2003!

I had intention to start designing my own layouts again when Twig started hosting me but it’s just so easy to do a quick and reasonable job with WordPress now…

Now that I think about it, it’s actually quite labour intensive  for me… which I guess, is why posts here are so few and far between. It looks something like this:

  1. Edit pictures
  2. Upload to Flickr
  3. Insert pictures into a post
  4. Write words
  5. Hit ‘Publish’

Might seem simple enough but I can’t usually concentrate long enough to go through all 5 steps in one sitting. It’s not uncommon for pictures to sit for days on my camera..  and then on my PC.. and then my Flickr and for posts to go stale on WordPress between steps 4, 5 and 6.  A more accurate expression of my process would probably be:

1. Copy pics onto PC

 

 

2. Edit pics

 

 

 

 

 

3. Upload pics to Flickr

 

 

4. Insert pictures into a post

 

 

 

5. Write words

 

 

 

 

6. Hit ‘Publish’

 

I guess this works for me, though, if I’m going to be selfish and keep this blog for my own intents and purposes.

This has been a pretty uninteresting post but hey, fulfilling my own intents and purposes here, right? Oh, and I churned it out in 17 minutes!
