The Weekend in Pictures – Vol. 10

25.10.09 – Golden Key New Member Reception & Dinner

So, turns out I’m a huge nerd. I got invited to join the Golden Key International Honour Society not long ago and attended the new member reception on Sunday. I wasn’t sure at first if membership fee was worth the $95 they were asking but my mum offered to pay it, so I guess there’s no harm in buying something to add to my resume. If anything, it’s an awesome stroke of the ego. Here’s hoping it turns out to be some sort of cool Stonecutters-type organisation  My parents, niece, David and his mum all came to watch me accept my certificate on stage. I guess it was a test run for my potentially upcoming graduation next year. My parents should now be prepared for the boredom and the overrated-ness that is attending a graduation ceremony! :P

Me accepting my certificate from the Vice Chancellor of my uni. This is a crappy print screen of the photographer’s online preview. I’m still not sure if this picture is worth forking out $15 for! Hmm.

And the highlight of the weekend! Dinner at Vinh Phat! Nothing to celebrate, really, but I guess it was an excuse for Mother Choi to go out and get that lobster she’s been wanting to eat for a while now. Thanks for dinner! :D It was SO good. My mouth waters when I look back on these pics

Steamed oyster with shallots

Ginger and shallot lobster with noodles

Meaty goodness! yummmmm

NOTD – OPI – Back to the Beach Peach

Ok! Back to the nail polish. It was a very pleasant surprise when I received this in the mail two weeks ago, especially since I wasn’t expecting anything. Like a kid on Christmas morning, I was giddy with excitement!

Ooh!! It was Back to the Beach Peach!!! From OPI’s 2006 Flip Flop collection!! Exclamation! I had lusted over this colour for a while after Googling swatches of peach polish. It’s no longer available so naturally, I looked for it on eBay and added it to my watch list. I didn’t buy it though, because I was agonising over whether it would be worth it plus the shipping so I tucked it away for a rainy day. Turns out it wasn’t my eBay account that was logged into on my computer – it ended up on David’s watch list instead.

You know he’s a keeper when your boyfriend indulges you and buys you things you *accidentally* leave on his watch list… ;) He has been amazing with all of this, dropping into nail supply stores with me and putting up with all my crazy lemmings! <3

And here it is on. A lovely peachy pink creme that was much brighter than its bottle colour. I wasn’t expecting that but I loved it nonetheless. There was something about it that I’m struggling to describe. I’d look down one minute and it’d come across as orangey while in the next instance, it would look pink. This polish was playing mind games with me! There’s no shimmer, glitter or any kind of chrome finish so it was all the colour, baby, which I think is very cool indeed.

Meet my funny girl, Brandi!

She:

  • Howls along to police and ambulance sirens
  • Doesn’t like thunder storms and hides under the table in the laundry when they happen
  • Doesn’t like cameras very much (you can see she is looking a little worried in this pic!)
  • Enjoys spending her days sun baking in the drive way
  • Knows how to sit
  • Understands Cantonese and goes into the laundry when I say “yup” (which translates to “go inside”)

and;

  • Is very friendly. Just ask the guests she humped at my 21st birthday party :D

Eep! Technical Difficulties ):

That’s right folks, that is us, the only row of red dots there! Boo to shared hosting ): I don’t even host my pictures on this server! But hey, it’s free (thanks twig!) and works awesome when it does. Free is all I can afford right now so hopefully it magically stops stuffing up until I finish uni, get a job and can afford my own hosting!

I’m also testing out Flickr’s “Blog this” function with this post. How exciting! I wonder how it will turn out!
