NAILPOLISH!

Nail polish. Varnish. Lacquer. Whatever it is, I am absolutely obsessed with it! I’ve been spending my days reading nail polish blogs, poring over the many swatches that have been posted online and devising endless lists of colours I want to buy next. It has well and truly developed into a raging passion of mine and let me tell you why… I love the way I can just change shades when I feel like something new. It’s not as drastic as dyeing my hair and far less expensive than buying a million different outfits. I’ve often felt daggy for dressing out of a limited wardrobe but this won’t be a problem anymore, the perfect solution has been discovered, hooray! Be prepared to see more of this in future posts! To kick off the documentation of my foray into the world of nail lacquer are some photos of my current stash that I have slowly been building up since the beginning of winter (May/June). (Excuse the poor lighting, the darker colours just look black, especially Midnight in Moscow which is a shame because it so isn’t just black. I think I will need to invest in a desk lamp in the future).

I’m hell bent on owning as many colours as I can but since I’m starting out, am realising that I should go for as many different colours as I can, that is, ones that don’t look so similar which unfortunately, is what I have been buying so far. Oops. But anyway, on with the photos.

My current OPI stash at 11.09.09. Nothing in comparison to the crazy lacquerheads out there but it’s ok, it’s only early days :D

L-R: Yoga-ta Get this Blue, Midnight in Moscow, Royal Rajah Ruby, Over the Taupe, Samoan Sand, Hopelessly in Love, Kinky in Helsinki, I’m not really a Waitress, Kenne-bunk Port

The polishes I have that don’t quite fit into a group yet… But again, that’s ok, I plan on collecting Color Club polishes too.

L-R: CC Hot Latte, NP (Napolean Perdis) Acapulco Pink, NP Soda Pop

Ah, yes! The minis! Oh how I love these little packs. While I may only like a few of the polishes, they force me to try ones I wouldn’t otherwise buy.

Color Club – Colors for the Cure minis… Turns out I’m not a big fan of pink. Oh well! I still don’t mind owning them.
L-R: Bashful, Translucent, Angels n’ Pink, In Bloom

OPI Dark Delights minis… My very first brush (hoho, pun intended!) with OPI lacquers. I absolutely love this collection being a huge fan of vampy colours. I liked all these colours from the get-go.
L-R: Lincoln Park After Dark, Lincoln Park at Midnight, Espresso Your Style!, Mrs O’Leary’s BBQ

And here is my first NOTD (Nailpolish of the day) swatch! Please excuse the mediocrity…

As mentioned before, I love the vampy colours. Spring, however, has rolled around and I thought I should try to lighten up. Slowly easing myself into the world of colour, I went with this…
Color Club Hot Latte – sunlight
2 coats with top coat. Damn those blasted sheet marks! I have since applied another top coat to try and get rid of them.

Color Club Hot Latte – take 2
2 coats and top coat. Sheet marks gone but now you can see my bubbles. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all! Dry skin, eek!

Another one of Nghi's recommendations

08.09.09 – Taco Tuesday at Flying Fajita Sistas

Finally! I have experienced the wonder that is real Mexican food. And good food Mexican food at that! To sweeten the deal, tacos are only $3 each on Tuesdays – score of the century considering how brutally they put the fast food variety and Old El Paso special I have been accustomed to, to shame. I loved it all! The food, the decor, the friendly wait staff and especially the element of adventure and danger that the “Wall of Pain” brought to our dining experience.

I did however,  leave the place with a twinge of regret – we enjoyed the tacos so much, we didn’t try anything else on the menu. We’re positive though, that the other dishes will  be more than worth their full price and have resolved to return on a day other than Tuesday so we don’t succumb to the temptation that is the three dollar taco.

Best. Tacos. Ever! L-R: Chicken, Shredded Beef and Pork.

The Wall of Pain! Complete with hanging skeletons, it’s that deadly! “Please seek staff advice before taking hot sauces from the top shelf.”

The 3 sauces we tried – the first two of which were from the top shelf. “Scorpion Chilli Fiery Temper”, “Jersey Death” and “White Zombie”. Love the names and warnings on the bottles! “Hot in, hot out”. Hmm.

Paul, the dirty gringo with a mouth on fire after a tiny dab of the Fiery Temper.

… And it isn’t any wonder, look at all those little flecks of chilli! A dip of one fork prong of this stuff had our mouths burn INTENSELY for the next 15 minutes.

I’m grabbing a shot of the wall of pain when I hear “HEY SISTA!” from behind. Uh oh, I was in trouble now! Maybe I shouldn’t have been taking photos. I turned around and one of the wait staff is pointing to this shelf of sauces. “You should be getting one of these, they look better!”. And so I did. Phew! I wasn’t in any trouble. (Click for bigger pic!)

And look what I found this amongst all the food stuffs. A tortilla press!

Chillis and some more sauces! (Click for bigger pic!)

Congratulations Mano & Cat!

29.08.09 – Mano & Cat’s Engagement Party

It was a nice and cosy event celebrated by family and close friends. As promised, here are some pictures from the day taken by David and shamelessly ripped off his flickr page.

Authentic Portugese egg tarts! (Groom to be’s brother-in-law comes from a Portugese family)

Mini mudcake. What a great photo! I wish my flawed manicure didn’t ruin it, boo.

cat biscuits… taking over the world?

Curious things, these cat biscuits. I was first alerted of their presence a few months ago when my boyfriend discovered them in the cookie jar at work. Since then he has made it his mission to get his hands on every possible one so that he can give them to me (don’t ask me why, I don’t see the resemblance I have to the feline species, either!). There have been several failed attempts though, which include smashing them to bits in his pocket by walking into his desk and, of course, absent mindedly eating them all (haha) but he finally succeeded on the 20th of August, 2009 when he greeted me with an Aon envelope. I love surprises and was delighted to find 6 of the very cat biscuits he had been giving me weekly updates on (3 have been eaten, since then).

Got this funny message from him on Tuesday:

“The plot thickens, just checked our unopened arnott’s classic biscuit assortment boxes and there are no cat biscuits. Which raises the questions; where did they come from? and from whom? Hmmm.. Damn those cats!”

Funny boy!

terrible old jeans circa 2000 = new shorts 2009/10

So… I took a pair of my mum’s dress making scissors to an old pair of jeans…

Don’t ask me why the first cut was so diagonal… I obviously didn’t know what I was doing!

An OK effort for my first pair. Maybe I should’ve cut less off so I could fold them up more.
